Trim & Millwork
Stairs, slat walls, crown, casing, and detail carpentry that ties a room together.
Trim and millwork are the details that make built spaces feel finished — not just constructed. Koala Construction provides stairs, slat walls, crown and casing, baseboards, door and window trim, and other architectural carpentry across Greater Austin and the Hill Country. We work on new builds, remodels, and touch-up phases where cabinet install is done but the room still needs the last ten percent of craft.
Millwork scope ranges from a single feature wall to whole-house trim packages. Slat walls and screen partitions add texture and privacy without full-height drywall bulk. Stair work — treads, risers, skirt boards, and railing integration — demands accurate field measurements because structure and finish layers rarely match the drawing dimension.
How trim ties the project together
Cabinet projects often need trim to close gaps cleanly — crown returning on top of a tall unit, light rail at under-cabinet lighting, or scribe molding where a box meets an out-of-plumb wall. Our custom cabinet and kitchen install teams coordinate with trim so you are not hunting a second contractor for the last linear feet of casing.
Bath and closet remodels benefit from updated base and door trim when floor heights change or tile adds thickness. Pairing trim work with vanity install or closet casework keeps profiles and paint consistent through a primary suite. Built-in storage often needs crown, base cap, or panel molding to read as part of the architecture — see built-ins and storage for related work.
Profiles, stairs, and feature walls
We install common and custom profiles — flat stock, craftsman casing, stacked crown, and base with shoe or square cut — matched to existing home character or a new design direction. Stair photos in our gallery show tread and riser work integrated with surrounding trim; we treat stairs as millwork, not a generic subcontract line item handed off without context.
Slat walls and screen elements need blocking, consistent reveal between slats, and clean termination at ceilings and floors. When a feature wall sits next to built-in storage or a cabinet run, we align sight lines so the room feels intentional from every entry point.
Scope and scheduling
We quote trim by room or by house based on linear footage, profile complexity, and whether material is paint-grade or stain-grade. Install typically follows drywall and major casework, before final paint in many cases — we will align with your painter or GC on sequencing. Stairs and slat features may require earlier coordination with framing and MEP rough-in.
